Albany’s Artifical ‘Southern Ocean Surf Reef’ tee print design for Albany Boardriders Club

With the completion of the artificial ‘Southern Ocean Surf Reef’ affectionately known as ‘Midd’s Reef’ at Middleton Beach in Albany, I was invited to design a commemorative t-shirt for the Albany Boardriders Club to mark its unveiling in 2025.

The artwork brings together iconic elements of Middleton Beach - Norfolk pines that line the foreshore, the barge that constructed the reef, breaching whales, and the two offshore islands in King George Sound: Michaelmas and Breaksea. While some artistic license has been applied in the way these features are combined, the design captures the essence of the new reef and what it offers - a consistent quality, surfable wave for all surfers, be they beginners or intermediate, at an accessible location just minutes from town.
